If the person isnt your friend does it matter if you unfriend them. Why not just do it. It will answer your question about the consequences.
I unfriended someone recently and didn't get an email to say I'd done so.
smurfchops I would be surprised if you could get rid of them from the search list its just fbs way of prompting you similar to google if you've looked something up it will remember it if you do manage to get rid of them from there it doesnt mean you have unfriended them cause no request was made and also knowone would know about it.
hi smurf,

if youve never sent them a friends request, you cant unfriend them, because they arent actually on your friends list.

what you did was look at someones profile, yes? and fb has remembered it, so the name/profile keeps coming up in your searches? is that right?

i dont think youre able to remove someone who youve checked out from your search list.

if someone sees it on there and questions it, just say their name comes up because fb prompts/suggests it. which is what fb does, it 'suggests' people who you 'might know' etc.

(if you Did have them on your friends list and you unfriended them, No, they will not get a notification of your action. their friends total count will just drop by 1. and No, you also would not get a notification confirming youve unfriended someone from your friends list)

Thanks looby, I just wanted to get rid of them on my Search list. Obviously I can't. thanks everyone, any further help or comments would be appreciated. That'll teach me to be nosy !
They are not your friend so you can't un-friend them. Just ignore the fact they show up in other places.

Even if you do remove someone who is your friend, you wouldn't get notified.
Haha Smurfchops. Have you managed to sort it out now?
I did have a quick look on FB for you, and apparently, if you defriend someone who wasn't actually your friend in the first place, not only do they send that person a message to inform them of this, but they also pay them a visit at work and at home.... just to be sure they definitely know you want nothing more to do with them.

Hope that helps...

ha ha thanks flip and everyone else x
and can you imagine the trauma of having 34 friends one day and then the next day there are 33, and you are miserable all day wondering who doesnt like you any more.
