House sitting for my sister and woke up this morning to find the cat has crapped all over a very nice white shag pile rug. I used kitchen roll to try and get it up but without trying to make this too gross, bits of it have dried up and are matted into the fur. I couldn't tease it out without ripping the fibres of the rug out.

What can I use to clean it up?

I looked for a label to see what it's made from but couldn't find one although knowing my sister it won't have been a cheap one so I didn't want to risk putting any strong chemicals on it. Help!!!!

Someone must know how to get poo out of a hairy rug...... :(
try a very small amount of washing up liquid/tepid water, rub gently.
You can get cleaners, I think. Your best bet would be to go somewhere like Pets At Home. I used a shampoo once, on a sheepskin rug.
Get as much out asap then get it dry cleaned?
Question Author
I'll try the washing up liquid first and if that fails will pop to the pet shop tomorrow.

I'm just worried I'll wet it too much and it will just spread.

The rug is massive and would cost a fortune to get it dry cleaned. I'd rather avoid that if I can.
Personally i'd do what I could then leave it.

Her cat, her problem.

But you might be a nicer person than me, lol.

I'll just feel bad if they come home from holiday to find their white rug is now brown and smelly. She won't be upset with me but I'd like to try and fix it.
Oh, sorry. I read this wrong. It's her cat?
Agree with B00 then. Just wipe up what you can with a wet sponge, and leave it for her to sort out.

Sorry, I thought you meant it was your cat. She'll probably have something she uses already.
get some spray foam carpet cleaner

get as much as you can out of the rug with plain warm water and a sponge then spray and leave for half an our...more plain water and blotting with paper towels... washing up liquid may be too harsh... human shampoo might be safer
Just thought of summet, make sure you dont soak the pooy water through to the carpet/wood/whatever underneath the rug.
Ewww!
Use cool water to clean if in doubt about the fibres-get as much as you can out-or it will be smelly. Damage limitation.... :-)
Of course there is another thing to think about. Is the cat house trained? If so, what made it crap on the carpet? Is it not well, perhaps? I'd kep an eye on it for a while.

It is her cat and she is used to it having it's moments so I know she won't be annoyed with me.

It's a wooden floor underneath so I'm not worried about that. Although the rug is really thick so I doubt it would get through anyway.

I'll try your suggestion Rowan and see how that works. Thanks!

SeaJay, the cat is house trained and has a cat flap but she's getting very old and I think she doesn't always quite know where she is going her business.
This really works...can get it in Sainsbury's and Wilkinsons

Thanks Pasta. Think I've seen that in Tesco before too. I'll have a look when I go there at lunch and check if it can be used on any fabric (what with not knowing what it's made from I'm nervous).
