Oh well Ho Hum, have to check Big Dave's site later.
Tut is "work paid by measurement or piece" according to <i>Chambers</i>

I think the wordplay is supposed to read as an anagram (fantastic) of E(nglish) EPIC followed by WORK i.e. WORK is not part of the fodder.
