finding out if a house in abandoned...?

how can i do this?

theres a house near me, that looks derelict...boards on some of the window panes, a few broken ones, dirty etc...but someone might live there...

it is not graffitied, the door is still closed, it has curtains..albeit ripped and dirty... but it looks just enough for someone to still be there - if you get me...

but theres no for sale sign...but then it might be that an estate agent wont even try in that state...?

id am interested in buying it and doing it up.

how can i find out ? should i just put a note through the door and see if any repsonse?

or is there a place i can contact?

Land registry will have the owners name which may give you a start.

or you could check the electoral register for your area, see if anyone is registered...

if there's a chance it could be a council house you could contact local council. put a note through the door first, as thats the cheapest option - then do a land registry search (not sure of the fee sorry) x

contact the local council first, they should know who it belongs to. Or failing that as suggested the land registry.

em10, the local Council won't have a clue who the house belongs to if its not theirs - that's what the Land Registry is for!

empty homes officer at the lcoal council will be aware if the house is abandoned, they can help you contact the owner and also help through purchasing and redevelopment of property
