Making a 'Movie'?

I've just scanned 84 photographs for an old Aunt and after 'cleaning' them up in Photoshop, I would now like to get them onto a dvd that will play on a 'bog-standard' dvd player so that she can watch them on her telly. I've spent three weeks 'cleaning' these pictures and I want the 'film' to look really pleasing for her,BUT I don't want to spend any money on the software,I don't mind 'shareware' contributions and I don't know anyone who will (lend) me the proper stuff(not that I would know how to use it). Most of the photographs are from the first world war time and some appropriate music soundtrack would be magic. How do I start?
Help,please.

Assuming you use Windows it is easy.
Open the folder containing the photos, click edit and select all.
Put a blank dvd in the drive and click 'burn' at the top.
Nearly all dvds will be able to read it.
Apologies, I didn't notice you wanted to add music.
Do you have Windows Movie Maker? Most Windows pcs have it.

Very easy to add photos and music, and burn to dvd.

Thanks for the prompt reply hc4361,
I do have Windows Live Movie Maker but it doesn't seem to work properly. Or is that a different program to Windows Movie Maker?
I have Windows Live Movie Maker.
What problems are you having? It should be straight forward.
You probably don't realise this .. but the 'standard' for DVD's ensures that you will lose a lot of resolution in the conversion. Max will be 720x576 pixels (and that's widescreen) .. No more. Unfortunately, DVD's can make photos look pretty bad. Better off making an album.
as they are stills you could just use powerpoint and make a slideshow...you can edit the backgrounds, add words etc...and it very simple and straightfoward....

Thanks for the help hc4361,
I've loaded all 84 photos(with just one single effect-dissolve and added 2 mp3 tracks) the whole thing is only 8 minutes long,I then saved movie and burned to disc( which I had loaded into the D: drive before I started,Memorex DVD-R)added a title and I've now got 3 DVD's, none of which will play on a separate dvd/cd player and I'm wondering if I should just give -up and try and find another program or something!
Cheers
they will play on a computer, so you could give those ones to someone who can use one, but you cannot just press 'burn to disc'...that will just burn files, not the movie

you have to go through the process properly

go into your windows dvdmaker program and follow the instructions...
