Got to go to the Frozen North (Chester) tomorrow from the London area. I try not to head that way if I can help it because it's all too grim, but cannot avoid it this time.

Does anyone know the relative merits of using the M6 Toll as opposed to the "Free" M6. I've not been up there since the Toll road was opened. I'm not worried about the Fiver or so that it costs but I don't want to shell out if I'm unlikely to gain anything.

Thanks for your help.

I use the toll road when I go to NEC from blackpool, its so relaxing compared to the busy M6. Was on it on Monday quiet AHHH
//Frozen North// - it works the other way too, the depression of heading south down the M6, the joy of Wolverhampton, Birmingham and Coventry waiting as to the motorways. Thank God for the Toll - it gets you a better guarantee of getting around quicker.

God what have I started!?!?!?

Anyway, back from the Frozen North (and it was freezing!). Thanks to all of you who recommended the Toll Road. It was almost joyous. Clear of traffic, smooth surface, lovely! The difference in congestion on the “old” M6 and the Toll Road was incredible. It was as if 90% of the traffic was spirited away to the Dark Satanic Mills. Best of all was the service area. We chose to take a break there. Everything for the more discerning customer.

Yes chaps it is a bit of a bind to have to pay to use something you had already paid for, but such is the sign of the times. A fiver well spent.
bednobs - heard it on the radio while I was zooming past on the M6!
Hi NJ, don't think Chester qualifies for the "up North" description.
It is barely out of London.

Good Grief Rich!

It's the farthest north I have ventured for a while (or will be for some time if I can help it!!!)
