Off to big school

My eldest boy is off to big school tomorrow - think I am more worried about it than he is :( (<hope that is the proper thing for a sad face)

About half the class (but it was a small class - about 21 kids) a number are from the camp so have either moved away or are off to boarding school and a couple are going to different schools. The school he is going to is small (only 90 in a year) so he should be ok, and it is in the sticks so limited chances for bunking off (8 miles away).

Hi petal - he's 11 (but only just, he is a July birthday). So tough for him as he is doing everything first (being our eldest) so we are all learning together, so far we seem to be doing ok!

Hope it all goes well sher. Our 11 year old still has a year to go (Scottish system) and I don't think he is anywhere near ready yet. I guess there will be other young ones in his class too?

I'm sure he'll do fine,being worried as a mother goes with the job description,doesn't it?

He is more than ready to go - I just don't like the idea of him being somewhere that I am not familiar with, and it is such a long day with the bus journey. On paper it is a really good school (I am quite up on secondary school speak!) and has an 'outstanding' from Ofsted.

that's good then sher - mine will be 12 when he goes as will half his class (our cut off date is end Feb rather than September) but we don't yet know which High school we will ask for him to get a place in and wont know till next April where he is given a place (and if any of his friends will be going too) - seems a long way away yet.

He'll be fine and he'll thoroughly enjoy his first day! My youngest started at 6th form college today and for some reason he looked all grown up :( Spent most of the summer holiday crying coz my daughter got her degree and has started a job 120 miles away! Somehow its just all got to me - perhaps because its permanent and thats where her home will be! When she was at uni she was always coming home and now she's not :( It never gets any easier!! Just make sure you've got plenty of tissues!

I will get the letter soon telling me to apply for the twins' school for next September soon - won't know what to do with my self when they go to school too!

I am sure with 5 kids to take care off, you will manage to fill the day :o)

No, that will be it then - they'll all be at school! Will have to take up crosswords or knitting (or might go mad and clean the house properly).

i know sher, but they won't take the laundry, mess and cooking with them unfortunately. I'd love to have 1 day at home while the kids were at school just so I didn't spend the week chasing my tail trying to keep up with everything......and I just have the two!

Know how you feel Sherrardk, my youngest grand child starts school tomorrow,she;s such a tiny little thing,only 4yrs 5 months,old. Seems too little to be going to school, but she is so looking forward to it, there will be no tears from her.... This will be the first time in 10 years that I won't have a grand child to look after during the day.( her sister is 7, and her brother is 10 ). And my eldest grandson starts at Cambridge Uni this month too. Life changing experiences for both of them.

I'm sure he will be fine Sherrardk, he will love it. I can't believe my twin granddaughters started their 2nd year at school today. Doesn't time fly?
