Can anyone recommend a good Probiotic for me to take. My usually reliable digestive system is out of kilter - especially first thing in the morning if you get my drift. So I think a course of Probiotics would help. I understand you need specific strains that reach the lower gut and you have to buy human strain and mixes that contain at least 1 billion 'bugs' per gram. I've wandered around on the web but can't seem to find ant good impartial advice. Everyone is trying to flog their own brand. So if anyone can help I'd be very grateful.

They are ALL of doubtful value.
and, personally, I hope I don't get your drift........
when I was on placement I was a little ill, thinking I had the start of IBS, I had a talk with the dietician and he said that things like actimel (the yogurt drinks) are really good in replacing the good bacteria in the gut, he said to drink 2 a day for 2 weeks and see if I could see a difference, I definately did :). May be a hit and miss as different pro-biotics, target different things, so may have to try a few x

BL, try upping your intake of water and roughage, and exercising in whatever way you can. Good ol' syrup of figs generally shifts a log-jam.
I had a course of Probiotics and they actually made both my Dad and me worse. I now stick to good old soluble and insoluble fibre from food and plenty of water and exercise - cheaper as well.
Make sure you up your vegetable and fruit intake as well as probiotic drinks, that does it for me.
If you mean you have symptoms of IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) sometimes constipated, sometimes diarrhoea and awful tummy ache in the morning, try Colofac tablets (Mebeverine) from your GP. I have been suffering like this for 6 years and for the past year since taking one small tablet daily with water 20 mins before breakfast, I have been mostly symptom free and everything back to normal - its a miracle cure!!
