I promised you all an update.
I tried about ten tester pots and couldn't get a cream that suited. I think that the pot of Gallery White was wrong, as the paint I tried on an A4 sheet was much darker.
The bedroom is finished now - I went for Apple White, with white woodwork and the white plantation shutters are being fitted next week.
Thanks, everyone, for your advice.

You know that I don't suffer certain types - not gladly anyway.
I take it you tried the Farrow & Ball paints?
There are very few chalky emulsions available .. except special ranges and manufacturers. Crown used to do Riba. Not now.
