I was readng about Dame Judi Dench and how she fears she has a stolen Oscars trophy at her house after forgetting to return the prize at the 1998 ceremony....woops! She picked up the Best Supporting Actress title for her role as Queen Elizabeth I in Shakespeare In Love. But has now been in the news because she took the statuette home without handing it back to be inscribed with her name, as protocol dictates. She's now not handing it back incase it gets taken away from her. Not quite the same but have you ever taken something accidentally that didn't belong to you?

In a rather inebriated state i did, it was someone's coat, at a party i went to, and got home with their house keys in the pocket. Oh dear.
Well, I picked up a pal from Gatwick last summer.

After I dropped her home, she phoned me ... she'd opened "her" suitcase, and it wasn't hers!

We had to take it back to the airport. Her case was still there, and the owners of the other case were long gone, having reported their case "lost by the airline". They then had to come back and retrieve their own case.

That made me wonder. The statistics suggest that airlines lose a ridiculously high percentage of passenger luggage. But how much is just stolen by other passengers?

It's low risk theft, isn't it. You nick someone else's case. If you get stopped, you say ... "No, this is mine. Look, it's got my baggage tag right here ... OH GOSH, I am SO sorry! ... This IS your case, after all. My apologies."

I bet that happens, all the time, and the airlines get the blame.
Yes, only recently, I took home a cat who is a dead ringer for our missing Rover - it was only when I took him to the vet the next day that we realised it wasn't him, no microchip. Fortunately, I was able to track down his real owner very quickly, and reunite them - ooops!
how awful for you to have your hopes dashed like that boxy you must have been gutted
rowan - I was - I was so elated when I thought it was him - and he even came to me out of some bushes, when I called his name. At least I was able to take him back home to his rightful owner!
but why would you want to steal other peoples dirty undies etc JJ?
