Can you learn to play chess, or is it one of those things you can do or can't do?

I love the idea of it, but when i play on the computer I get beaten even on the easiest setting. :(

Can I learn to play chess?

I'm giving the computer a good thrashing on level 3 of Chess Titans.
I learnt by using a simple chess game on the PC. As it wont allow you to make illegal moves you can soon learn what pieces can move in certain directions.

Thats simple enough, becoming good at it is the hard part!

Well, I know how all the pieces move, but it seems that i miss too much. I try and assess every move, but always miss something obvious.
Anyone can learn the moves, it's learning how all the pieces can work together. I love chess although I'm not that good. Chess.com is a good place to start and you can play people on line and join tournaments. My username on there is HaggisDj if you ever fancy a game.
I was taught how to play from a young age. I don't like it though....way too much thinking involved for me...

OH taught my son how to play in a week or so. I believe a human is better at teaching games than computers.
One of the best ways to learn chess is to play another human player. You will often find chess groups/clubs in your area. If you can join one, do so.
I was taught the rules of chess by my brother and my school coincidentally started a chess club.
Here I am 50 yrs later and still playing. I like to think I'm a good player, but I still get slaughtered on occasion!!

At first it's a difficult game but once you got a few basics together it gets better. A good memory and strong tactics are helpful.
anyone can learn to play and there are some good chess games on computer but they will always beat you at first because they dont make mistakes, you have to outplay them.
You should always try and think of a few moves ahead all the time, keep trying to anticipate.
