I posted my intentions the other day when I was sure I was going to win
I said I wanted to set up a foundation that involved re-training prisoners and sending apprentices to gap holidays in East European orphanages
Everyone thought I was very worthy but I have to point out I would have paid myself a very handsome salary too
I have also mused with the idea of buying houses near police stations and renting to vulnerable people
mr(s) o, not convinced, i'll need to peek meself to make sure.

i think the people who say winning has made life a misery, are generally those that have reliased what their friends are actually about.
A very distant relative was one of the early winners (£3 million) of the lottery and it brought him nothing but misery. He married & then they found out they couldn't have children. To console his wife he bought her a top of the range BMW. The first time out in it she ran over & killed a little boy. They both turned to drink & are now raging alcoholics.
His mother doesn't speak to him - his paltry offering when he won was to buy her a new coat!
That is a sad story Mrs O, hope nothing like that happens to anyone else as money then becomes irrelevant
Yep, we have spent it. Whilst driving my grand children home last night, we all decided what we would buy and who we would give money to. New houses, new cars ,nice holidays, swimming pool in the garden....that would hardly make a dent in that much money, but it would be fun, and it certainly wouldn't make me miserable. The chances of winning???????
every time I buy a ticket I mentally spend the lot, this continue right up until I see the actual results and that mentally deflates me until the next time.
Why do some people go over the top when they win such huge sums like buying a great big mansion or a huge boat or a load of big tacky diamond rings and large pieces of gold jewelry? You should not tell a soul and everything you do should be understated but still enjoy good things in life. That way you can stay below the radar in order that nobody will ever find out.

apparently the chances of winning is 1:116,531,800 - personally im willing to take those odds and get myself a wee ticket!
Oh, but wouldn't it be good to be THAT one.....live in hope
Not me. It's way too much and I have simple needs. I'm happy where I live, I'm happy with the car I have, and as long as I can pay bills and put food on the table, I can't ask for more. Well,I could, but no amount of money would buy that.
I would love to win as there are lots of people and charities that I would like to help. I would wait a few months though and try to do it anonymously as I wouldn't like publicity.
I don't agree that £165m is too much as some people are born into wealth and don't even buy a ticket but anything over £250,000 would be nice as a cushion in old age.
Mrs O your story reminded me of the monkey's paw. There's always a downside.

I disagree. By now there must be dozens in not hundreds of people and families who have coped perfectly well with the change in circumstances. We just never hear about them.

...if not hundreds.....
