Does anyone know how much a converter would cost for a UK laptop (Compaq) being sent over for a present for daughter living in Toronto?

Converter for what?

Mains?
Question Author
Yes, sorry, for the mains. I think UK is 240v but Canada is only 110v???
Canada is 120V @60Hz. You might get a converter from Maplin or some other on-line retailer.

Thanks, <scotman>. I think I'll chicken out and get daughter to get converter over there; it'd be safer!
this is the converter you'll probably need...

Otherwise known as a UK mains lead!

Pretty much every single laptop mains adaptor will run on 120-240volt 50 or 60hz.... (check, it will say on the adaptor) and all you need is a UK mains lead (or cut the canadian plug off the lead and fit a UK plug)
That should have read 110-240volt 50 or 60hz
