You will probably be taxed LESS on the second job as there will be (depending on the hourly rate) no NI

For you to pay more it would need to take you into the next tax band - ie over (in round terms) £45K total

Thanks dzug2 for replying.

lol i defo wont be over than amount.

So, say for instance i was getting £6.75 ph hour for a 7 hr day for just saturdays would that mean i would not be taxed NI conts??

Many Thanks
Kate
You'd pay the normal tax (20%) on it but there would be no further deductions for NI, as there would be if you worked extra hours in your existing job.

so the tax on the second earning will be 20% and NI will be taken out too?
No National Insurance on the second earning
Try not to get mixed up by saying you are 'taxed NI'

There are 2 deductions from most peoples wages. PAYE Tax and NI.

On your 2nd job you will have 20% Tax taken no matter what you earn.

If you then happen to earn enough to pay NI (anything over £139.01) then you will pay NI.
You will have to remember to declare both sets of earnings to the taxman - if there is any overpayment of tax on the second job, that will then be adjusted in your tax code on your main job (possibly for next year).
Leaving aside the NI effect it can seem that you are being taxed at a higher rate on the second job, because they are taking off 20% from the full amount without any personal allowances. So as a percentage of the total wage, the tax is higher than in your main job where you are being given your personal allowance. But it is an illusion. You get one lot of personal allowance for the year, regardless of where it is allocated. Go for it, and good luck.
