Cursor Disappearing ?

On my Mums new laptop, the cursor has vanished! There is a small red light top left corner of the touch-pad. How can we get the cursor back and why has it happened. Any help appreciated. Thank you.

Give as a hint as to what the make and model of laptop is? and what version of windows it's running.

It's a COMPAQ computer, but she's just seen at the bottom of a paper to "turn the TouchPad off and on, quickly double-tap the touchpad light". That's solved it, but thank you for replying Chuck.
