Easy I suppose to dismiss the implications of his decision. I have just watched an interpretation of their story. Leaves me wanting to know more, I will have to read up on them both! http://www.youtube.co...st=PL20BAB523C641D64D

Oh I thought she was but his tampax recipient.
gran - I wonder whether Edward thought the Monachy would accept Mrs. Simpson as his wife and future Queen - when you watch the old footage of these history programmes, he seems quite full of himself and very confident. I think it may have taken the wind out of his sails when they were not accepted after their marriage, but this is just my opinion.
Stanley Baldwin (then PM) told the King in no uncertain terms that if he persisted with his intention to marry Mrs. Simpson the government would have no option but to resign, thus precipitating a general election in which the King's private life would be a central issue. In 1936 it was considered unbelievable that a twice divorced American commoner should occupy the Queen's throne.
and thank god, as he was known to be a sympathiser of the party some of our so called learned members support - and should have been banned ages ago, if not this afternoon for their disgraceful thread on "non-racism"
Concubines, mike were a royal prerogative, the ordinary man in the street had a *** or a mistress.
You could be right DEN but In those days the Royal Family were the backbone of Society and all the procedures of pomp and circumstance was strictly followed. I think that the King's advisers would have been made him aware of the position he was in. One or the other.
My late Mum actually made dresses for Mrs Simpson. She worked for a french dressmaker in Baker Street London at the time and actually worked on some of the trousseau. She used to tell me that it was general gossip in London that he was going around with Mrs Simpson and he used to turn up in the car to drop her off and pick her up from the salon. When the story broke in the papers one of them (she thought the Mirror) had a double page spread of the trousseau and she brought home samples of the fabrics and pinned them round the paper. Sadly when she was in the army and salvage was at a premium, her Mum gave it to the salvage drive.
all the girls thought he was very handsome and thought Mrs Simpson was rather plain but always very nice to them.
