i bought a dog with my ex 5 years ago, we split up 2 years ago and agreed he would still see the dog, i have had the dog living with me, he takes the dog for one night a month, he refused to pay towards vet treatment when needed, the dog is microchipped to me at my new address, he insists on still having the dog once a month only when its convienient to him! I really dont want him in my life anymore as ive moved on and it upsets my new partner who looks after the dog with me. If i say i dont want him coming round anymore he says he will take it to court, does he have any chance of forcing me to let him have to dog once a month for the next 10 years or so?

You probably need proper legal advice to be on safe ground, but I would suggest that morally, right is on your side.

You are effectively the owner of the dog in all the ways that matter - food, care, vets bills etc., and your ex is simply using your pet as a means to continue to bash out the kind of argument that probably split you up in the first place.

Make a stand - tell him his 'access rights' are withdrawn since he is simply being vindictive, and causing you grief, and if he threatens to take you to court, say you'll see him there. I suspect that when his bluff is called, he'll back down.

sorry, but it looks to me as if hes fighting a battle that he will eventuallly lose, if you stand up to him, if once a month is only convenient to him, choose a date and time to take him there when its least convenient to him each month and then collect him at the same time the next day, his plans will go down the drain, and he will get fed up and leave you, the dog, and your partner alone to live happily!
good luck
From experience;
he will lose but meanwhile
he has you on a lead
