Lil's dad passed away on Saturday. After being given a 'few months' 2 years ago, he lived to see his daughter get married (again) & to walk her down the asile (again) , 2 Christmasses, a Father's Day and his 80th birthday. I've known the man all my life - a funny, awkward, emotionally-constipated man who never once told his daughter he loved her or that she looked beautiful, even on her wedding day(s). But we all know he thought it.

But the memories are many and amusing - his ferrets escaping from the cage to attack Lil's mum's fluffy mules because they thought they were rabbits, and Don having to chase them off with a bunch of dead daffodils.... We laughed til we wet ourselves (Lil never did grow out of that habit...). We'd always get into scrapes & fob our mother's off with tales of our innocence, but he was never fobbed off. He banned us from bellringing because of the British Legion chair incident. My last memory of him is dancing at a bbq last summer twirling him around to some south american rhythm. He dropped a surruptitious SBD then blamed me....

RIP Donald. We know you loved us all really x

Fuuny thing was, in his last 2 weeks he started hallucinating (I don't mean funny as in.... oh, you know what I mean). He used to see ducks walking across the bed and hear voices. One morning he swore blind he had seen a deer walk past the bedroom window - they all raised their eyebrows & thought he was seeing things again and he got quite frustrated no-one believed him (they do live in a residential area where no deer are know to live).

Until the neighbour remarked that afternoon that traffic had been held up that morning because of a lone stray deer wandering in the middle of the road near their house.....

Bizarre but true.
