The article quotes "....I'm a big boy...." I would think it more cultural than religious.
Put simply – it's quite ridiculous to say that male circumcision is not religious in origin when it so clearly is.
Tamborine - “... I would think it more cultural than religious.”

It's religious in origin and now cultural.
Question Author
http://en.wikipedia.o..._of_male_circumcision lists it as most likely a passage rite, not religious.
I thought all Jewish boys had to have it done before they were nine days old?
It first took place by the mother of Moses (I think)
I
I do not know of it being common at all in catholism
Question Author
I don't think Moses was. I'm pretty sure God didn't have to describe the word to Moses.
I stand corrected -it's before the eighth day in for young Jewish males
Question Author
I used to tell people I was part Jew but then they snipped that part off.
Seems UK is most ignorant of the benefits of circumcision (me incl). Read this:

http://www.circinfo.com/benefits/bmc.html
This bit in the article seems a bit odd:

"Marikina, the country's shoemaking capital, was recognized by Guinness in 2002 for creating what was then the world's biggest pair of shoes."

I hope they didn't use the foreskins to make them ;-)
tamborine that's a weird website....I wonder who is behind it.
Tambo, I got to disagree with much of the content of that link!! I have done a fair bit of reading on this subject as I was once considering it myself, all the research suggested that there maybe a a very slight health advantage to being circumcised but it was negligible and it was outweighed by the risk of infection due to the operation.

As for the original link, do they think it is some kind of game to circumcise these children, just to get it in the record book, barbaric and sick to say the least.
i think RATTER it was to avoid backstreet jobs done with broken glass or rusty cans
