popeys

when I was little we used to buy an ice cream cone with soft whippy style ice-cream in and pushed into the ice cream...a fruit iced lolly. they were called popeys (Pop-eyes) noone else I speak to has heard of this..have you??

Seem to remember something similar, but the lolly was pushed into a 'screwball' (one of those ice creams that came in a plastic cone, eaten with a little scoop, and had bubble-gum at the bottom).

p.s. - has anyone seen the ads to the right. Ice cream delivered to your house in 24 hours. Nice.

in my area in middlesex they were called witches hats

well i dont know what they are called here (yorkshire) but we get them in cones and screwballs the kids love em

I LOVED SCREWBALL. The bubblegum always made the ice cream discolour as you got near it. Delicious!

They were absolutely called popeyes where I grew up, the lollies were the long thin kind and they were 15p!!!

Screwballs were an entirely different matter, the bubblegum ball at the bottom used to freeze in the icecream and you were at risk of breaking your teeth on it!

ooohh yer i remember them, a cone with ice cream and a fruit lolly stuck up side down in it i think... yum..  2 for the price of one :-) dont know what they were called but popeys rings a bell.. and oh my god the sites on the right hand side :-o oh my god they sound delish! i gota have a look! :-)
