Those parts feel warm to me when I touch them, but my fingers are the same temperature. 36 isn't very warm.

Thanks boxtops, that's what I thought I think that some of my felow debaters assume that 36 degrees is a lot warmer than it actually is.
As a comparison, the water coming out of my boiler for the bath is about 60 degrees.
I think that a lot of people think 36 is warmer because if we had weather of 36, it would be 'roasting'.

Thats true Arti, but we are wondering what substance you could heat to 36 degrees to make an absolute comparison? For sure if the outside temperature was 36 we would be absolutely sweltering. Would water at 36 degrees feel the same as our core temp?
Yes - remember that the boiling point of water is 100 degrees centigrade. 60 is a hot bath. Warm soup is probably a good comparison!
I'd not like to be sat out in 96.8° with no hat !

I suspect it is because we are well insuated, so the nerves don't detect the high temperature at the surface.
I think that Boxy is hot stuff ;)
Our skin is colder than the core temperature. This is how we stop from overheating. In colder weather our extremities (hands, feet etc) are the first to go colder to preserve our core temp. when even cold. Put your finger in your mouth and it will feel warm because your finger is colder.
Core temp is 37 degrees celcius not 36.

Rectal temperature is normally very close to this, buccal (mouth cavity ) is 0.6 degrees cooler 36.4, armpit is 0.6 below that or 35.8
