hi my ex husband has been very ill and in a critical care unit at the hospital nearest where he lives my son has been visiting every day .Today is the first day he has woken up after a wek of being weened off the ventilator so he is still critical but stable basically now the critical care ward needs the beds for more serious patients but my ex still needs the critical care so they are going to move him 50 miles away to a hospital that has a spare critical care bed as they say he is now well enough to travel, the thing is my son will not be able to visit him .Is it usual to do this?the hospital he is at has just been extended ,there are 2 other hospitals before the one they are sending him too but they are full too.

They will do whatever they need to for all the patients best interests. I am afraid family and visitors come well down the list. They will probably move him back nearer home as soon as he can move to a normal ward. This is what happened to my Uncle
it's fairly usual i'm afraid
