Please can you suggest a village my husband and I can retire to.
We currently live in West Yorkshire and want to move to somewhere flat and rural as my husband is partially disabled and we want to get away from the hills. We have been thinking about Lincolnshire, as it is quieter and there is a good possibility of country walks and cycles for me to do as excercise. I still have to be able to get back to West Yorkshire at least once a fortnight to visit my father so cannot move too far away. It must be a village with a Post Office, General Store and community activities plus a trout pond not too far away.
Please can you suggest anywhere suitable.
Thank you

Some friends of ours moved to Lincolnshire - Sutterton near Boston. It is very flat. It takes about 90 mins to get to where we live, just outside Barnsley
Well Lincolnshire certainly fits the flat and rural requirement!! But to suggest a village for someone else is almost impossible. Think google will be your friend or start with somewhere like rightmove to see what's affordable and where.
A man goes into a Grantham pub with an alligator under his arm.

"Do you serve Lincoln City fans in this pub?" he asks the innkeeper.

"Yes Sir," says the publican.

"Well a pint for me, and a Lincoln City fan for the alligator."
The seven dwarves are in a coal mine when there is a mine-slip.

Snow White runs to the entrance and shouts down to them.

In the distance, a voice comes up "Lincoln City to win promotion"

She sighs, "Well, at least Dopey is still alive."
the villages around market rasen in lincolnshire are nice
Heaton21 - just a thought so you can narrow your search. If you need to revisit W/Yorks bi-weekly - do you need to do if in a day - work out travelling time so that you can spend the time you need with your father - that might give you a circle / radius of area to look at - if that makes sense?
And then take a few days touring / holiday that area to see if it suits you - the Fens / Lincolnshire landscape will be very different to what you are used to - unless you have already been there.

Thank you everyone for your replies (and jokes).
We visited Market Rasen last November and are going to spend a few days near Lincoln at the end of this month to get another feel for the area.
I have several alerts set up on Rightmove, but it is always good to get views from others, especially those who live there.
Thank you
It was mentioned on Country File today that a lot of villages may be losing their regular local bus service due to Government cut-backs so when you find somewhere nice it would pay you to look into the transport position otherwise you could possibly be stranded if you have to give up the car in later years.
Just a thought!

Yes, I saw that also, as an avid Courtyfile viewer.
It is certainly something which needs to be taken into account.
