I am doing my usual, "its only a couple of months to summer" training regime. I have decided to include a weekly (increasing to twice weekly) run through the woods by where I live. The circuit is just less than 5k and is on various terrian and surfaces. I have always hated running and have opted for using the gym instead. But, this time round I am really enjoying it.
I ran the circuit (well I say ran, mid-slow jog if I am honest) in 40mins. Considering it is cross country and variable gradient I am happy with that.
But what do you think is a good target, I am male, 27, medium build, generally good health?

Was a nice evening for a run, I am not committed to all weather running just yet!
I am becoming increasingly bored with the gym and enjoying the running at the moment.
Yeah single - note the need to get back in shape, you get comfortable and a bit lazy in a relationship I find and I definitely let myself slip :(

I went to the gym for about a year and didn't enjoy it much. I liked their swimming pool so I used to go swimming more than the gym. It got too costly and as I wasn't using the gym it seemed like a waste of money.

I used to walk home 4 miles from work a few years ago and that kept me quite fit. think I prefer a long walk than a run.

Perhaps a sports bra? lol
I whack some vicks rub on my chest and under my node, helps with breathing. Also, try and control your breaths and keep them deep if possible. Its good because you can clearly measure your improvements by timing yourself and then when your ready increase the distance. A lot of the time in the gym I just fanny about (and watch the fanny)!!!!

Tigger - I am starting to think I am not getting value for money in the gym now. Got weights at home and coupled with a few runs plus football, I might leave for the time being. Seem to work out better away from the gym!
It takes me 40 mins to do 5k on an entirely flat run (apart from about 1k which is uphill). I think you've done pretty well.

If JJ is around she will give you some great tips.
I am in Marathon training at the moment - 5 weeks today!

My current speed is a mile every 10 mins - so I hope to do the marathon is under 4 1/2 hours - it will be really tough but hope to do it :)

My fastest time for 5k is 24 mins - but this was in a 'race' type environment - I couldn't do that today.

I am 37 years old, and overweight (but getting slimmer!).

Not sure where you live, but find out if there is a ParkRun near you - http://parkrun.com/home.aspx - this is a great way of exercising - there are people there who walk it and people who will do it in around 15 mins!

If you want to run by yourself and increase your time, consider using an App like RunKeeper if you have a smartphone, or looking at a Garmin GPS watch - this will help you get faster times.
