Hi, My pure bred arab horse has completely lost his frogs for the second winter running. To the point that his left with a lump of pink flesh in the middle of his frog. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Can you use straw for bedding ? Shavings are often pine that gives off resin, mixed with ammonia could burn and I hate the splinters. Shredded paper would be better.

My manure area is shavings, straw/hay & paper all separate. If a horse happens on the area it chooses to stand on straw/hay when at rest.
