The height is more important a criteria than the diameter.
With great care! Height is the key, with anything over 20 odd foot, get a specialist in and it will be down and away in no time. They are not as expensive as you may think. Hardly worth the risk to yourself and property.
You're not giving away any clues Adobe. As the others say height is a paramount consideration and probably how much room you have around it is also just as important.
Dropping it in the right place is not that easy, have a look on you tube !
8" is quite a diameter, you will need a chainsaw or a lot of energy!
If you are at all lacking in confidence get a tree surgeon in, I agree with landscaper, they are not as expensive as you might think.
Finally have you considered how you are going to get rid of the resultant debris, a professional will do it for you.
It depends where it is and whatequipment youhave. It is is the middle of a garden it is easier but if near a building it is dangerous. A large axe would do it but you need to to be careful as the fallingtree could kill you or someone else. You have to know haow to make it fall where you want by undercutting the direction of fall you need. Sounds like you need to be careful.
