Road Tax is stupid

I've just paid £233 for 6 months' tax.

I hardly ever use that car.

I can walk into town. I work from home. When I go to London, I frequently use the train.

If I drive at all, I more often take my little car.

I neither pollute the roads, nor put wear and tear on the roads.

Would it work to factor annual mileage into the cost of road tax?

JJ, I can't imagine you looking dishevelled. I obviously don't know what you look like but you sound like you look like you've stepped out of a salon. And posh!

LOL ... thanks, Tiggy.

(Note to self ...

Don't let Tiggy see you when you've just been for a run, or come out of the gym, or fallen off your mountain bike)
The thing is that the facility for you to drive it from A to B is there if you want it.
It's a bit like a standing charge, and I never liked those either.
agreed, tigs, I always imagine JJ looks.... hevelled.

That's it, OG ... it's there when you want it.

Sometimes, on a hot day, it's nice to drive up to London with the roof off ... but not always.

Actually, I've got one of those annoying friends who could drive somewhere in a soft top car, through a hurricane, and she'd arrive looking tousled and sexy, and all the guys would fancy the pants off her ... and most of the women, too.

But the rest of us ... we get out of the car looking like we got mugged on the journey.
I look like that all the time JJ.

LOL, Tiggy.

I'm always slipping over on the beach and grazing my knees.

I go to meetings in my power suit, hoping that I look like Deborah Meadon (but younger, of course) ...

... but end up looking more like Just William.

And speaking of dishevelled ...

... I'm going to the gym for a bit.

Be good x x x
Well I'm hoping to posh up a bit once I've lost the baby weight and get back into my 10s and 12s. I seriously need a haircut too.
Have fun x
Why not sell the car and use a taxi when required? I'm sure your 6-month taxi bill would be less than £233; also consider all of the other costs of owning a car! You could bank the money from your car's sale and save a small fortune in running costs. No brainer!
Yes road tax *is* stupid - it's only in the last few years they've got to grips with the fact that some skint hippie in his 1/2 ton 600cc Citroen 2CV was paying the same as some fat toff in a 6 litre 3 ton Rolls Royce.
You can declare your knackered Merc SORN while you scrape the finances together to have its head gasket fixed, meanwhile the SORN "expires" and if you don't re-declare it SORN when the time sneaks up on you - it's an £80 fine ! Whadda load of old borlacks (rant ends)
what car do you have?? mine is £99 for six months

Leave the tips to Stokey :0)

Dave14 ... that's just a silly idea, isn't it !!

=0)

AP ... is the Merc fixed now?
x ............forgot to plant one on your boat race :0)
Fraid not JJ - sadly it's lying at the top of the driveway like an old sock.
I'll be working on it when the weather warms up a bit.

rosie ...

I've got a jolly little MGF, which is fun, and ...

... the one that they unfairly tax so heavily ...

... a Toyota Land Cruiser.

There's no reason for the tax being so different on the two of them.
"I've just paid £233 for 6 months' tax"

Do you think that you would spend more than £20 per week on taxis? If you don't need the car all the time, why keep it? My grandfather was pursuaded to give up driving and to use taxis on purely economic grounds (secretly, we were glad he was no longer a risk to himself or other road users!).
If the Land Cruiser is in that tax bracket it must be reasonably new.

You must have known that the road tax was going to be extortionate when you bought it didn't you?
