It would appear that there is a law that overrides a persons civil liberties.

/// But he agreed that the man, known only as Alan, should not be allowed to have sex with anyone on the grounds that he did not have the mental capacity to understand the health risks associated with his actions.///

But since he believes that “sex could give you spots or measles”, why should he want to have sex?

The headline in the link made no mention of homosexuality, AOG's question did though.
Yes, AOG, there is no mention of homosexuality in the article. So where did you unearth that gem of information?

I hope that you are not being homophobic here.........as the wraths of ABers will descend.
Actually the link does say that 'Alan' was in a relationship with a man in the first line underneath the picture.
Yes it does say that Kromovaracun, but it doesn't mention homosexuality, either in the headline of the article.

What you read is that a male, X. is in a relationship with another male and come to the conclusion that X is homosexual. What you don't read is that people with some conditions which affect mental capacity can be very affectionate, and that the sex of the person they feel close to doesn't matter.

Which is almost certainly why the report made no mention of homosexuality - "Alan" isn't a homosexual, he's a child who has formed a very close attachment to another person. The homosexuality bit is only in the OP's mind.

/// The 41 year-old had been in a relationship with a man whom he lived with and told officials “it would make me feel happy” for it to continue.///

/// But his local council decided his “vigorous sex drive” was inappropriate and that with an IQ of 48 and a “moderate” learning disability, he did not understand what he was doing. ///

I think one can take it as read that the man was having a 'sexual' relationship with the man he lived with, why else would his local council find his 'vigorous sex drive' inappropriate?
AOG, where, exactly, did I say he was not having a relationship with another man ?

The newspaper report makes no reference to him being homosexual, your original post did. That interpretation is entirely yours

Now, as it happens, I have been in contact with people who have Downs over the years, and I know they can be very affectionate and form an attachment to an individual. The relationship might just be giving and receiving cuddles or even kisses or it might become sexual.

But whatever form the relationship takes, it's not the gender of the people they form an attachment to which matters, it is the relationship which is important to them.
