OK, this may be a simple to answer [I hope]. Trying to install Live essentials, not enough room on C: drive, but have plenty spare on back up drive. How do I get windows to choose which drive to load it on? No choices come up, it just churns away with the install, then I get the error message. Thanks, my techy pals

Move your personal photos or videos to your backup drive and free up room on your main "C" drive.

As Chuck says, Windows needs room on a hard disk to create temporary files and if there is no room on your C drive then Windows will slow to a halt, or not be able to work at all.

Has your computer perhaps got a "D" data drive - or other letter (many laptops come with...

You would be better off moving your data to another drive. Storage is so cheap now, why not just buy another drive. They are very easy to install.

As far as I know you can't change the install path for windows live essentials as it's generally part of the windows updates.

As Beso said, you'd be far better of moving your personal data to another drive to make more room on your C drive, if you're that low on room on your C drive then it's going to cause you other, more serious, problems sooner rather than later.

You've not said what version of windows you are running, but it's very easy to move your documents folder to a different drive in all versions.

If it has move your personal data to that.

Also have you run "Disk Clean Up" which is part of Windows and cleans out unwanted temporary files.

Also clean out your recycle bin.

Also maybe get rid of some old Windows restore points.
Move My Docs to the backup drive.
R Click My Docs .. Change paths .. move all files/folders.
Clicking on My Docs will work normally afterwards .. but they will just be on another drive/partition.
Make sure in Properties of My Docs and the destination drive that there is physically room to store there!
