Our cat who is nearly 18 is in great shape - all her teeth, bright eyes, alert, friendly yet in the last 6 months has become very vocal both indoors and outdoors. She is also very demanding shouting at us for food. She never did this prior. She has been to the vets recently for treatment to a wound and she healed well. The vet was suprised how young she seemed and thought she was younger, we know her exact age as she was born by our bedside. Any ideas ?

they sometimes get like this with a bit of senility....its like they forget where they are and call for reassurance and like old people with dementia sometimes they seem to forget they have been fed...or they just get craftier....after the vet has excluded physical problems try restricting the areas she can go when you are not with her she will feel more secure Feliway plug ins sometimes help too

One of my mums cats was 23 we called her the verbal furball
Frankie moans and mutters all the time - he is only 5, I dread to think what he will be like when he becomes a pensioner. ;-)

Could be losing her eye sight. My old cat lost her eyesight and would howl to sound off objects in her environment to find her way around.
My elderly cat did this too - apparently the bellowing is common in old cats who're going/have gone deaf. It sounded heart-wrenching and I would feel so helpless for her. (The vet gave her a clean bill of health and said she was very good for her age) . This did go on for quite some while - over a year, but she suddenly went blind and we lost her last year :((
