If you have a serious relationship with someone a lot older/younger than you, the reality is that one will probably die a long time before the other. But not always. My parents were the same age, but my father died at 52 and my mother at 66. My grandfather was 10 years older than my grandfather and died only 18 months before her. If you get on well enough, age ceases to be an issue.
I mean of course that my grandfather was older than my grandmother. (Note to self - proof-read before sending!)
There's 16 years between me and Mr Wingnut, he has his health problems which I knew about when we met and he has had since he was a teen, so yes chances are he will go before me (his words) but we will make sure we have a bloody good time before that happens.

There was only 5 years between my Mum and Dad, my Dad died when he was only 48, so barely made it into middle age nevermind old age. They always thought they would grow old together. Age is but a number.
Pleased for you, wingnut.

So young at 48 For Funks Sake

Age is but a number - if you truly love someone, they'll know it
I'm pretty much the same as wingnut - 15 years between me and mr mac and the same longterm health problems as mr w. I may well be left on my own but all the time I have with him more than makes up for that - I'd rather be with him for a short time than not at all.
19 years here - I was 42 and just divorced, she was 23.

We found out who our friends were! "Cradle snatcher" was the mildest thing I got!!

25 years later, with a very happy marriage and one daughter, I think it turned out OK...

My first wife is still a good friend, and as a sign of the times, when my daughter by my first marriage got married, there were 8 "parents" sitting round the one table, and getting on quite well (OK except for one couple)
Perhaps I should mention, my wife was a sister on a geriatric ward at the time... that should be good for a joke?
my wife is 6 years younger than me but I'm confident I could beat her in a race over any distance.
I've been married for 13 years - 14 in March, when my husband'll be 46. I'm 32 tomorrow, and couldn't be happier.
there's an old formula - when you marry take the mans age and divide this by two and add 7 (though personally I think 9 works better).

So a 30 year old man should marry a 22 year old woman, 40 to 27 and 60 to 37......

However, I agree with the sentiment expressed, if it works then it works.

I presume there is some reference to the engagement of Heffner and his 24 year old gf - there are a couple of jokes posted over on the jones page concerning large age differences.
