Around 2 years back while running..... i had a fall in a concrete path, i conducted MRI and was informed that my ACL was secondary to tear,something to do with ligaments.... i have done regularly 2 months physiotherapy but the problem still persists.... Could you please enlighten me with what exactly are these ligaments and what exactly means by tear in ACL.... and what treatment is suggested for the quick heal of it??? In 2 months i have learned all the exercises im supposed to do for treatment.... do i still need to go to my physiotherapist or should i do the exercises at home? Anxiously awaiting your reply

ACL= Anterior Cruciate Ligament, this connects your femur (thigh bone) to your tibia (shin).  A ligament holds bone to bone, basically holds your skeleton together.

This is a serious injury, if you did it 2 years ago then it has become chronic now which will take longer to heal.  If you are still ahving probs, you should be seeing your physio once a month at least, and YES you should be doing your prescribed exercises at home without fail EVERY DAY!!!!  You should avoid impact sports, anything that involves twisting the knee, try swimming to strengthen thigh muscles, knee support or rest when aching.  Unfortunately, you will have to put in the hours to get it right.  Good luck!
