Dog hates new pup

I have a 2 yr old JRTXyorkie who lost his spaniel best friend a few months ago. This Christmas we decided to buy a female pup as a companion for him as he seemed to be a bit lonely. She's been here 4 days and he absolutely loathes her. Constantly growls and snaps at her nonstop. She bounces up to him regardless, tail wagging and doesn't seem to be bothered that he's acting like Hannibal Lecter. I've introduced puppies to adult dogs on about 5 other occassions and have never had this problem before. I've trawled the internet and followed some of the advice but nothing seems to be working. Help!

Hi, Have you ever introduced bitch to dog before though?
Is your male entire? I have always found that when you bring in a new bitch there can be problems as it is [IMO] the bitch that will always be 'top dog'....to be honest I would leave them to it unless he shows any real sign of harming her, he probably is just showing off his male pride.
Of course follow the rules of feeding and greeting he older dog first and feed separately....I enforce pack ranking in my house [I have 6 dogs right now, 5 mine and one long term foster]. They are fed in order of dominance and I can change the pack ranking by my behaviour.

Then why let her bounce up to him if he reacts like this? Use a crate so he can get used to her being around without being pestered. Only allow her out with him on a lead, Walk them together. Give her time out on her own to play and be with you. After a while he will get used to her being around and she will have settled down a bit (hopefully!). Although adult dogs rarely hurt puppies seriously they can inflict a severe bit if they nip them somewhere like the ears or face.
I introduced a puppy to an adult entire male. I kept them separated and only together when I was in control of the puppy to stop her bouncing on him, and they became the best of friends.
I reckon he's only showing dominance, like a lot of older dogs do to puppies they meet.He is trying to put her in her place and she must learn to be submissive before he accepts her. If she's still trying to play and bounce all over him then she hasn't learnt this yet. have you tried pushing her down on her side and letting him sniff her etc to enforce this 'ranking'.?Good luck!
