screen size has gone wide...

i turned my laptop in this morning and the whole desktop is large and wide...like its stretched into widescreen like a tv,,,
i have move the slider bar in the display in control panel but its just made things smaller...not less wide... also text looks vaguely blurry too?
what can i do to put it back?
i switched it off and on, but it was the same

When you slide the slider you will find that a number of different resolutions are offered, a mixture of 4:3 and 16:9 . You need to pick one which has a ratio of 4:3 (such as 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, etc.)

Yes, well it will - because the current resolution doesn't exactly match the physical dots on your screen.
