I have just spent a lot of time and money having a new front drive installed and landscaping my front garden. I have got a quadrant filled with ornamental grasses and rocks and covered with gravel. I have a temporary postman at the moment and he seems to be taking a short cut across my newly created bed to get to my neighbours stepping on to an area where they have planted some bulbs on the other side of the wall I had built. So we are both annoyed about this, but never see him to complain. I don't really want to have to put a sign up in the garden saying 'please don't walk on my garden' or anything like that, but what else can I do. I have tried moving the wheelie bin right over next to the area concerned, but he just seems to bypass it. I can tell by where his footprints are sinking into the heavy clay soil (another reason for not wanting him to walk on it). Any ideas AB'ers?

Id leave a note for him telling him there are bulbs under the soil so could he be careful as not to walk on the soil, or ask your neighbour to ask him- nicely of course.
You could contact the post office and ask them to tell him.
Have you thought of a gin trap? Illegal to catch animals but I'me not sure about posties. Other suggestion is a large sign "BEWARE MINES"
like the answer dilligaf gave!  Seriously though, you may need to put a barrier in the way in the form of, e.g., some large plantpots.  When's your normal postie back?
Contact the local sorting office and explain.
Tell the idle b*st*rd to walk round and use the access provided for pedestrians.  Tell the sorting office without hesitation if he doesn't comply.
