As I said the other day my laptop broke, the screen has gone black just like somebody
has turned off the light, everything is still on it as if you hold the screen at the right angle
you can just about see the graphics, I have been told that it would be too expensive to repair but I have another laptop with a VGA connection so would I be able to connect
them both without damaging either one (so I can see what's on the first one through the
screen of the second one)

No.

VGA ports are outputs only, not inputs.

if you have a computer monitor, or a flat screen TV you can connect the broken laptop to either of them using a VGA cable though.

Thanks chuckfickens, I have a small flat screen tv that since your answer I checked
and found a VGA input on it so all is not lost.
