I don't think you can as an individual. Does your employer ask for CRB checks before they employ people? It would show up on there.
once convicted it's public information. if it's recent the court will tell you the result if you ring up.. if it's not recent I have no idea!
Why not ask your colleague?
What's the issue here davewills, does his conviction affect his job ie. working with kids etc.. Also how did you find out he has a conviction and why does it worry you, are you his employer?
Bear in mind that if the conviction has expunged according to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, the employee is not obliged to disclose it nor may the employer treat the employee any differently if they discover it.

There are obviously some exceptions to this related to working with children and vulnerable adults...

Hi Thanks all, The conviction does not affect their job but it does affect thier colleagues. I would just like to see proof of this for myself. I also know it took place around 3 years ago.
There seems more to this, why do you feel compelled to dredge up trouble for a work colleague...their past really is none of your business...they have served their punishment for whatever they may have done.

dave you seem to be a bit of a jerk really, as long as hes not done anything wrong to you whats your problem... why do you feel it is your place to be noisy about a 'colleauges' past... it's nothing to do with you!!!...i wouldnt like to work with you, your a 'snitch' u seem to be a busy body that just wants to stop a work mate trying to earn a living, its pathetic!!!
Oh dear dave. Your first question on your first day on AnswerBank and you get a slating . . . and well deserved it seems.
Strikes me that you want to dig up the dirt on your colleague. Are you wanting his job. Have yoe never done something that you regret.

Got the help you wanted dave? I bet you now wish you hadn't asked.

PS: Do you live under a stone?
The court will never tell you the judgement over the phone, no matter how recent.

the person is a convicted peado, all of us have kids and as a result of his conviction no one now feels they can openly talk about thier children, my work allows children to come in to the office for work experience. i just think its wrong. and to be honest i couldnt give a monkey on what people thought of me on here, but a big thanks to the people who did try to answer my question. I have found a really good site, which has now proven what we already knew......
