Hi guys
My hamster gave birth to 7 pups yesterday morning :)
Wev removed the father into another cage .. When would be suitable to clean the mums cage? She's made a real mess of it with lots of poo in there , where worried the babies may pick up an infection, also wev not seen the babies since yesterday an I'm worried about them .. Any advice please x

at least 6 weeks leave alone!!

Really? Does that also mean we can't clean the cage either?

Don't touch them or disturb the mum or she might eat the babies.
move mother and babies ( they will be close to mum) together and put in a box clean out cage then put them back they should be ok. try not to touch babies if possible hope this helps
sorry my answer was abrupt earlier someone came around.
totally agree with karen mac and kendra be as gentle as you can with them or as we found the mum ate one of her babies.
just do what you have to and leave things be hope they are all ok!
try as little as you can not to fiddle about looking at the new babes it wont help try and leave alone for 4-6 weeks ok!

Thanks guys will clean them as gentle as possible .. People have told me that the mother may eat the Babies but I've since read that it's the dad that might do that , the mother only eats them if they've died ( how sad ) thanks again for the advice :) x
think about it - in the wild there wouldn't be a domestic cleaning service so intervene as little as possible.
www.ehow.com › ... › Reptiles, Rodents & Small Pets › Hamsters - not sure if this link will come through but I typed in care for new born hamsters - (it said leave alone until they were ten days old) - best you check though.
