We had to cancel our US holiday at a few days notice because my mother died. It took a couple of weeks to round up all the necessary paperwork, but the claims form has been sent off this week. Does anyone have any experience of how long these things take to sort out and how helpful (or otherwise!) insurance companies are? Thanks

I'm really sorry to hear about that and hope your insurance company are sensitive to your needs.

My Nan had to pull out of my overseas wedding at 4 weeks notice due to ill health. By the time we flew out her insurance company had repaid her for the flights and accommodation already. I don't know which company it was but it goes to show they can do things quite quickly.

Two weeks to the day, our claim was paid in full(well, almost - there was an excess of £75) - a great relief!
I'm glad they made it easy for you and hope you're coping ok :)
