England $7.00 a gallon which half of that price is taxes.

Depends what you drive. I have a 1.8 Ford Fiesta diesel and average 55 miles to the gallon. Not bad for a car with 125,000 on the clock. Some of the bigger petrol cars get very poor mileage, as low as 12 to the gallon, I think.

Don't forget that there is a difference between US gallons and UK gallons.

1 US gallon = 3.785412 litres

1 UK gallon = 4.54609 litres

In the news recently it was a flat 63p per litre and then they add vat as well so in a litre the tax is 74p in a us gallon = 2.80, UK gallon 3.36. Ouch! As for MPG anything from 8 to 78! my gas guzzler for example does 16mpg
Impossible to give anything other than a "guesstimate" but I would reckon that most cars should average 30mpg at least. There are just so many variables involved that even that figure may be way out. Pretty useless answer....sorry.
My wife runs a citroen C3(Diesel) and gets up to 65 mpg no matter how she drives it
