I have just noticed my one year old son has a lump located just under where his ribcage joins together. It feels quite solid and is about the size of a pea.
Does anyone know what this could be, should I take him to the hospital or go to the doctors in the morning. Have got myself a bit worried and dont know what to do...

Go to the Doctor.

thanks for your answer, im probably just panicking like most mums :o)
If you are concerned enough to ask on here then you should see your doctor or speak to the health visitor (better to be on the safe side).
Hazel, I'd say go to your GP as well. Not for your sons benefit but yours. Just to put your mind at ease. You don't need to worry about emergency appoints or anything though. It will more than likely be a bit of extra cartiliage.
You could ring NHS direct now if you are really worried - they are usually very good and reassuring.

Thanks, you always seem to think the worse dont you. It doesn't seem to be causing him any pain. On google it seems to be coming up with worse case scenarios.
Will book a appointment first thing, sure he will be fine.
Thanks again
Yes, ring NHS direct, if they thinik that there is a worry, then they will get you in to see a doctor in a short time!...........
And to put your mind at rest a bit, a lump was found in my face when I was about 4. My Mum thought it was because of a nasty fall I had. The fall was just when she found it. Dentist told me a few years back that I was probably born with it.
It's still fitting snuggly in my saliva gland.

Take him to the Docs..but don't worry too much.

Didn't think of that, will ring them now actually. Thanks alot.
but.. I have a lump there.. it's part of my skeleton!

don't panic, but get the reassurance you need.
Sara3 - glad you mentioned that as I seem to have a bump there too (thought it was just me - was going to keep quiet until Hazel came back and told us what it was).
Hazel, unless it is causing him pain or discomfort don't phone NHS Direct. They can arrange an out of hours Doctor, but there will be bugger all he can or will do as he is not your GP. OOH docs are a massive expense to the NHS (just a call back from a doc costs the NHS £40, a vist is charged at approx £75ph depending on where you live). You will either have to wait hours for a doc to come and visit at 3am, or they will do their other favourite trick and call an ambulance.

Just wait till tomorrow and book with your GP.
I knew someone that had a tiny lump in the same place..turned out they had an enlarged diaphram, and it was nothing to worry about, just part of them!! best to see Dr tomorrow to put your mind at rest. have a nice hot cuppa & try not to get worked up.
Haematoma perhaps, just a collection of blood, looks like a dark bruise

I was just on the nhs web page, i will wait til tomorrow.
I did compare him to my othe to children, they dont have the lump neither does my partner or myself. I do think it is nothing serious.
Will give you all a update tomorrow.
Thanks for all your advice :o)
Sure it'll turn out to be nothing. Try not to worry. x
