I had a really good long distance relationship with this guy – granted we didn’t see too much of each other (probably why it was so good…ha). We were starting to see more of each other in our 7th month and he asked me out saying he fancied me more than any of his other girlfriends (he’d had 3 serious ones before me). 3 weeks later he finished things after everything seemed to be going so well. I was left dumbfounded. I have since found out his ex from years ago has come back on the scene – his childhood sweetheart who obviously had history something I could never compete with. I had done nothing wrong and since sent a couple of emails explaining how I feel – not been nasty – kept my dignity. He’s replied to them all but I get the feeling he is just going to forget I ever existed which I’m really sad about – how can he do that? Do you think he’ll ever think of me with fondness or erase me from his memory altogether?

He'll probably start thinking of you with more fondness when he realises his childhood sweetheart is not the same person she use to be.

Yeah lots of people have said that to me - saying he'll be thinking of all the good times they had together which I suppose is only natural. They went out when they were 16 until 19 and then didn't speak to each other for 8 years and then she moved home to her parents house which is across the road from his and I think she was trying to get him back....tell tale sign...he told me a week before he asked me out that she had asked him over to shoo a way a guy looking in her bedroom window...hmmmm.
It does happen. Look at the amount of relationships that broke down after friends reunited was launched.

What you have to decide is that if it goes tits up and he comes running back to you are you strong enough to tell him to sling his hook?

Right now I probably would to be honest but trying to move on and if I do then I wouldn't. I just don't want him to dislike me and just wipe me out like I never existed.
Have you ever wiped anyone out like they never existed? I don't think it's possible..especially if the person never treated you badly.

I suppose when you look it like that you're right. Thank you. :-)
