Just bought a new hot water bottle, and it says on it not to use boiling water. Why?
I have been using boiling water in hot water bottles all my life, and I cannot see why boiling water should not be used.

could be very dangerous if you spill any water when filing the bottle,
On a serious note, I think it has something to do with the fact that water at boiling point might perish the rubber, thus causing leaks.

On a lighter note, we no longer live in the 1950s, but if you feel you really must use a hot water bottle, then I suggest filling it with cold water and microwaving on medium high for two mins.
I guess if you scald yourself while filling it you can sue them.

So they are covering themselves by saying you should not use boiling water.

In this day of everybody suing everybody compaies have to be so careful.
Why don'y you purchase one of the bags with polyester beads in it.You just pop it into the microwave for a few minutes. Also they stay warmer longer.
I'm pretty sure that it is because hot water will perish the rubber.

Be careful microwaving hot water bottles, they often have a metal insert for the thread part!!

They are banned in my care home where I work!!

Thanks for all your answers, I reckon that VHG has hit the nail on the head, regarding suing for scalding yourself.
get yourself a cherry stone hotty instead. heat in the microwave for 3 minutes, lasts for ages and you don't get that horrid rubbery smell. much easier.
This has always been the case, for years it has said not boiling water - my mother used to say it was because of the rubber perishing (in those long-ago pre-litiginous days....)
Now I find that one of those hay pillows works just as well, as is said, just pop it in the microwave.
oh i love my hot water bottle,
ive got it toasting my feet as we speak,
i always fill mine with boiling water and have it in a soft fleecy cover.. very cosy ;o)
fill it up with hot coffee & vodka for a perfect nap
