Seems like the most apropriate topic to put this in.

How do I find out my NI number? Or is there anything that I might have in my house that would have it on?

I never got it, it was some nhs card thing that I recieved, that I then mistook for my NI card.

"Corby,

there is no way that HMRC will give out that number - it is not for child benefit to give out that number and any advisor doing so will end up in trouble"

It is the Child Benefit Office that allocates the the Child Reference Number (CRN) when a claim to Child Beneift (CHB) is made. Until CHB orderbooks were abolished, on one of the pages, each child was named and their CRN was printed alongside each name. That CRN is the same as the child's NI Number. Now, it's been a few years since I have had any involvement with Child Benefit matters and things may have changed with regards to security which is why I said see if they would tell the mum.
Hasn't she found it yet ?
