Could anyone tell me the minimum time it would take for a divorce to come through in the early 1930's.
I have the marriage of Porter Dickenson to Edith Barker married Edith Barker in 1930,in Wakefield.
Then in 1932 he marries Gladys Draycott in Hull and Edith Barker Dickinson marries William Jones In Middlesbrough the same year.I know nothing about divorce laws but it just seemed very quick. Thanks Polly.

I don't know anything about divorces in the 1930s, but is it a possibility that the marriage was annulled?
I would be tempted to check the marriage certs for both as the 'condition' for both should say 'divorced' on their second marriages, if it says anything else it was bigamous, also, on ediths she might be termed as 'the divorced wife of Porter Dickinson' possibly,

Thanks Dot,I was just being curious really when I did the search,as Mary (Liilian)the daughter of Porter and Edith is one of my clients and she said she never knew her father, she didn't have any contact with him after her parents split. She thought her father was buried in York, but the only death I could I could find for a Porter Dick(e)inson was in Lancashire, so I thought I would do a bit of digging to see if I could find a bit more.I can't find his birth anywhere either. She was always led to believe that her mother never married William Jones and yet Mary's maiden name on her marriage is given as Jones so I assume her mother had it changed when she married William.I will see if Mary wants me to go further with it and perhaps order the marriage certificates. Thanks again Polly
Hmm I can't find a birth either.........according to genealogist the Porter Dickinson who died in Burnley in 1984 was born 18/05/1907 but I can't see it anywhere.
same here but was he perhaps American? Or was porter a middle name maybe?

Hi Craft, yes I found that on Ancestry, his year of birth would be about right as Mary was born in 1930.
Dot,possibly,I suppose he could have dropped his first name,as I cannot find him anywhere.
I found an Annie Porter Dickinson born 1902 in Durham, but her only brother on the 1911 census was Thomas born in 1897.
is there a porter dickinson on the 1911 craft? i not i think he either dropped his first name or was not english.
No I couldn't find him on the 1911.....
it's annoying isn't it? can you put surname in the 1911 and his exact date of birth craft?
Have you still got your premium membership of ancestry dot as there is a Porter Dickinson in Hawaii.....
i've still got premium membership but not worldwide, don't know why premium is premium but it is! worldwide is the next one up that i;'ve been on for about 6 months but i;ve dropped down to premium this last month.

I forgot to say that Mary said her mother was staying with her sister in Wakefield when she met Porter, and thats why she married there instead of her home town.
