What are the best pain killers to take if you have a stomach ulcer?

OH was involved in a crash on the way home from work and his neck is swollen and painful. He has an ulcer though so not sure which pain killer would be best.

? Sounds like he needs to see a doctor ummmm
disagree with you squad. you do what you like, but i wouldn't take ibruprofen if i had an ulcer, even with a glass of milk.
ethandron....my reasoning.

Patient with ? an ulcer, involved in a RTA some hours previously and is in pain. He needs an anti inflammatory pain killer. We have the choice of either codeine, paracetamol, aspirin or ibuprofen. Now which is the most potent anti-inflammatory? Ibuprofen. But, he has an ulcer, so what can we do? Give him one of the others....might work or give him Ibuprofen knowing that it will be for a short time only and is the best of the drugs. Given with milk and as a short term therapy it is unlikely, but might, upset his ulcer, but in my opinion taking the whole situation, I would take the chance.

However, I respect your opinion, which may well be the correct one.

He's not taken anything yet because he's out of his prescription (don't know the name) His Mum is going to pick him some up tomorrow. He won't take Ibruprofen unless he has them, for obvious reasons. He's in quite a bit of pain but at the moment it's a matter of 'put up and shut up'

He said the swelling in his neck (quite minor, but I can see it) isn't as painful as his shoulder.

He just feels sorry for the poor girl that crashed into them...

He's not being treated...he's just given drugs to control it.

To be honest...since I moved in it's got much better which I presume is his improved diet and not so much alcohol. He doesn't have many attacks anymore...that's why he's ran out of meds and didn't even realise it.

I'll get him to have a look at the link. Thanks Tony xx
its just the mental breakdown that's the problem since you moved in ..... :-p

hope ginge is ok

Oi cheeky....!!

He'll be fine...he's a toughy. I'd say he'd be a bit sore tomorrow. Looks like he got the brunt of it....

I'll tell him....

He use to be really bad with it but I put that down to him being a beer monster and not eating on a regular basis. As a general rule he only gets bad attacks about twice a year now. Psychologically though...he's still sh1t scared of pain killers...
