I am having a problem with the middle finger of my left hand. It look swollen feels a bit stiff and when I bend it there is a cracking noise, I have also had aches and pains in my knees, feet, especially the bottom joint of my big toe on the left, which also makes a cracking noise. I was tested for Arthritis about eight years ago, but the blood test was negative, i am 40 this year, so i thought i would be too young to get arthritis.

i have had rheumatoid arthritis since i was 24, so i think your position on being too yound may be a little off. Mine started off a little like that and i'd had tests a year before then one day suddenly progressed to being full on, not able to get out of bedness.

My point is that although ra is rare and oa would be unusual in those particular joints at your age. it might be worth going to the gp again

Could be just an age thing. I always say as soon as I cant run up 2 steps at a time when i go upstairs then im old!!! Could you maybe have an infection in your finger? if so get penicillin quickly.
try taking some devils claw tablets..some fish oils and b12 and b complex...give it a month and see if their is any improvement....
I started to have the same kind of thing, and have now been taking Glucosamine regularly for a couple of months, and it's made a huge difference.
sounds like it and your not too young i was only 15 when i developed ra and say early twenties when i got it in my hands but i had steriods injected staight into the bone which was very painful but was the best thing and my fingers rarely swell at all
No ..you are not too young to have arthritis. I was diagnosed with RA at the age of 48 .I was then put on various drugs to control it including steroids which is unpleasant to say the least. This has since burnt itself out, more or less, and left me with OE although I still get attacks of painful joints and that horrid burning ,aching feeling in all my joints which makes me seek bed rest.
I would ask your GP for a bone density scan and also a complete bone scan so that you can get to the bottom of your pain and what is causing it and then get the appropriate treatment.
not too young for arthritis but touchwood it is not.i started feeling achy about the joints about two years ago and started taking seven seas sportflex capsules.it contains everything to keep body supple and joints healthy.i dont normally believe in supplements but can honestly say it made a big difference.
