Just got my renewal letter for RAC breakdown insurance membership - single/roadside & recovery/ - it comes to almost 100 quid!!!!

What other companies do you use...what would you recommend which would be as good as RAC but much cheaper?

TIA

you can normally find a cashback site which will give you a good amount back,
a quick search offered a saving of around £40, however site are never guaranteed to payout as said so check ratings and reviews on sites.

Thanks defenstrate - i have never heard of cashback sites ...its a new one to me. I'll investigate further. Ta.
If your car insurance is due in the near future, think about looking for a deal which provides you with free breakdown cover. The Post Office gave me fully comprehensive cover for £200 which included a year's free RAC cover. It's not just the roadside service either; it includes the relay service, hotel accommodation etc. (The only thing not included was the home start service. I opted to pay £20 extra to have that added on).

If that isn't suitable for you, take a look at what Autonational Rescue can offer you. I was with them for many years (and only left because of the inclusive deals offered by car insurers). I had to call them out several times and I was always satisfied with their level of service:

Thanks Chris and Eddie - excellent answers.

Eddie's answer suits me best as my car insurance is not due until February.....so going with a different one each year (to get the discount) sounds like a plan.

Cheers all. x
I renew each year with the RAC, I get the top cover (everything) costs nearly £200 but when I use Tesco vouchers it only costs £50 !
Question Author
Thanks Toureman - something to keep in mind for next year maybe - my 1.50 voucher with Tesco's wont get me too far.... ;-)
i use the AA as they cover the driver rather than the car..not sure any of the others offer that..
I had my renewal for aa £116 phoned them to say it would be cheaper to quit then get my wife to sign up as new member with me added as second person. They didn't want to go to the trouble so added wife to mine and matched discounted new member price. You might have similar luck with the rac.
