But surely Celibacy just isn't normal so why enforce it among Priests?

No distractions? Ie a wife?- well that's the idea i assume?

Same as with nuns, aren't they sometimes called Brides of Christ?

Neither is their leader Bobbs.
Of course their bits twitch - usually around little boys - and that definitely ain't normal!

He's a bit too old to be getting a wottsit on BOO..LOL
The pope generalised all atheists as being as bad as Nazis or something, which is rich coming from a German!

profound stuff there Molly..
Sad though, Bobbi, that the few get such a bad reputation for the rest, AND their boss lets them get away with it.
Nowt wrong with a bit of celibacy..............now and then.
The trouble with the church is that the people who make the rules are so old that celibacy doesn't seem such a problem.

it's been going on for decades saxy and I feel acutley sorry for the victims, but he has inherited this problem, I think what is needed is a younger Pope, someone who can understand his people, why are they all ancient?
If the cardinals elected a young Pope, say about 50. They might be stuck with him for another 30 years. Elect one in his 70's and they might be rid of him in 10 years or so.
It always makes me laugh that priests are celibate yet feel they are qualified to give advice to married couples
It certainly has gone on for decades, if not centuries, but people didn't speak out about it then as they do now. They'd have been too scared, and with good reason. These days we mostly (in the UK at least) have the freedom to speak out on - or even reject - religion without fear of persecution.

If there *has* to be another pope, I agree someone younger and perhaps a bit more 'real' would be more suitable. But in the catholic church, is that, in all honesty, ever going to happen? I think not.
