burning to DVD disc.

Hi all.
I took some footage with my video camera recently and uploaded it to my Acer Aspire laptop to my videos, I then burned it to DVD disc but when i went to play it back on my DVD player it would not play saying this player cannot play this disc, if I put the disc back into the laptop it will play perfectly can someone please help and let me know what I am doing wrong.

Because you are probably playing an avi (dv codec) on your pc, and if you burn as a data disc and file, your DVD player will nt understand the format. Some dvd players will th .. (the type that play jpegs,mp3's, Windows media video, etc)
Did you convert the file to DVD format (MPEG2) and burn as a DVD?

Not unless you tell us what software you're using to burn the disc.

not sure what you mean, i just upload the clip to my videos and then click burn.
That'll just burn a copy of the file in its original format Eugene ............... you need something like DVDMaker or Nero

thank you will i be able to download software to achieve this and if yes what do you recommend.
Well if you can get anything, the very best at the moment is VSO ConvertXtoDVD (3 latest version) or latest ver4.
Failing that, its AVS.
Failing that, free is DVDFlick .. but it's slow and no good at AC3, but will be ok for you.
Is it something as simple as using a DVD-R disc on a DVD player that needs DVD+Rs?
